All of this will be blogged and moblogged for your amusement.
So part 1, the mystery boxes of beer.
At BevMo, once in a while they will sell taped up boxes called the mystery box of beer. It costs 11 dollars and all they promise is that it contains 24 beers of some sort. Talking to one of the guys at the store they said these got created because they don't sell 12 oz singles with a few exceptions and when a 6 pack or larger breaks this is how they get rid of them.
This value proposition works for me as:
- I like beer.
- I like surprises and grab bags.
- ANY beer is a deal at 11 bucks a case.
Of course there is some filler in there like Keystone... but the rest of the selection is very good. Hell, my favorite beer was right on top: Stone Ruination IPA... that stuff is 13 bucks a six pack! Here's another view where I put all the "good" beer in one box:
So for 22 bucks I got this sampler case of very VERY good beer. Good deal? I think most beer drinkers would say hell yes. And then I got a case of macrobrew for free thrown in. That's how I'm looking at it!
Some of the amazing things in this box:
- Stone Ruination IPA (mentioned above)
- Stone IPA- awesome, just not as awesome as the Ruination
- Sierra Nevada Anniversary- Best IPA those folks have ever made
- Jack Daniels Lynchburg Lemonade- Got 3 of these, I felt the whoosh of air as Jody whisked them away to the fridge
- About 5 other different pale ales. Yes, Haze, you can come over. Haha!
That's what the display said at BevMo about this beer.
Of course, plenty of Asian beers are brewed in America and have been for a while...
I guess they meant the first original Asian style beer brewed in America.
But... what the hell is an Asian style beer?
Judging by this stuff... it means a pale ale that tastes like a dark lager. No idea how or why they did that...
Oh my God...
OK. So as you probably know as a reader of this blog: I love beer. I especially love beer from Stone Brewing in San Diego. I love their beers so much that I would go work for them... if only they had a need for a project manager with a finance and IT background... and paid as much as the tech companies do. Anyway...
Today Scooter and I were at BevMo and encountered their yearly Vertical Epic release. Click the link to learn more about this crazy beer project :)
Unlike all of the professional and seasoned beer tasters that are out there, I'm going to give you the stream of consciousness tasting notes:
Nice bottle... cap opened. The hell? This almost smells like mulled cider. Ok that was just the opening shot. Smells like a straight up belgian ale. A really strong saison? Taking a sip. Oh, what the fuck? I just got punched in the face by ginger. I think I taste cardomom and clove. This is spectacular. I can't even describe this. They had serious balls making this. Wooohoooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
Ok, so I was a bit over dramatic, but wow. Like it or hate it, this was quite the experience.
Haze, if I may ship you out a bottle, just lemme know :)
